In this salon-type setting limited to six students with former Houston Chronicle photographer and Houston Press Best of Houston photographer of year 2009 Ben DeSoto, take your photographic skill to the next level. Regardless of what you're shooting–in either film or digital formats–receive ideas on how to shoot, edit and present your works. Discuss your individual project in class.

Study the subject of portrait photography building on natural lighting skills with an emphasis on lens, settings, and studio lighting. The opportunity to work with models is a part of this class.

Work in a black and white darkroom. Learn to process, proof, edit and print off a negative from a roll of 35mm or 2 1/4 film you shot. Get the best print possible. This is a nearly lost art...but it survives. The Houston Center for Photography, Ripley House Neighborhood Center, Inc. and the Houston Institute for Culture have joined together to promote the use of this darkroom. The space is equipped with the best innovations and developments in film processing and negative printing.
